Another stunning Summer day in Warwickshire saw me travel to Compton Verney for Wedding Photography at the stunning Grade I listed Georgian mansion house. With it’s own chapel and 120 acres to play around in, Amy & Alex’s wedding is one that will go down in the hall of fame. Check out the story of their wedding below…
WHEN DID YOU GET MARRIED?
August 2018
WHERE DID YOU GET MARRIED?
Compton Verney Art Gallery & Park
HOW DID YOU MEET?
We met at University, we were both in the same halls in first year, but we met properly at a Salsa Class we went to with all our friends. I couldn’t hear properly as we were far back, so I leaned over to Alex and asked “did he just say we needed to partner up”, he thought I asked to be his partner and said yes (phew!)
WHERE DID YOU GO ON YOUR FIRST DATE? HOW DID IT GO!?
We went to TGI Friday’s and to see James Bond after, it was great, until we arrived back at our halls to a round of applause!
TALK ME THROUGH THE WEDDING PROPOSAL !?
11 Years later, Alex proposed in a gorgeous barn at the back of a beautiful wine shop, in the Cotswolds. We went on a really long country walk to get there and I kept finding ways to make it longer, which seemed to make Alex stressed. When we got to the village he almost lost his cool when I suggested we should check out other venues for lunch. When he finally steered me there, I entered the barn and saw why he was so set on it, he had decorated it with hundreds of fairy lights and candles and got down on one knee!
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR WEDDING VENUE?
We loved Compton Verney from the moment we arrived; on our first visit we felt goose bumps driving down the long drive. We fell in love with the Chapel, the grounds and the stunning hall for the reception. The staff were extremely friendly, down to Earth and wanted us to enjoy our day, our way. They were really accommodating and supportive in pulling it all together.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE MOMENT OR MEMORY OF YOUR WEDDING DAY?
Too many to pick from! For me, walking down the aisle to all my family, friends and Alex smiling at me was pretty amazing, and knowing that everyone was there to support us as we got married. Alex loved the evening and letting his hair down with all his friends, as did I!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLES?
That no matter how much you obsess over all the small details, on the day you will be wrapped up in a bubble, just enjoying your day with your family, friends and each other and will barely notice them, so if you find yourself going mad trying to get the perfect centrepiece- it’s probably not worth worrying about!
HOW DID I DO AND HOW WERE YOUR IMAGES?
Darren was fantastic, he was great in the run up and we met to talk about our ideas for the day and our photos, after which I felt completely at ease about Darren taking our photos. On the day, Darren turned up looking super smart and was great at just blending in to the surroundings but getting great pictures, he was warm, funny and kind and got some lovely photos of us getting ready in the morning, without being intrusive or adding to the pressure.
Darren photographed my sister’s wedding, so it felt like having a friend come along and take photos. From other weddings, my main concern about a photographer would be them bossing us around, to get the perfect photos and I can assure you Darren just followed our lead, asking us if we wanted to do couples shots, without taking us away from the day for long, yet managed to get fab photos. Thank you!
OTHER SUPPLIERS THAT DESERVE A SHOUT OUT?
Greenery- we used local florist, who specialises in Sustainable floristry, whilst creating the most beautiful arrangements. Kate was so helpful in the planning process and very responsive to my indecisiveness, she genuinely wanted us to be happy and didn’t see it as just another job. I highly recommend her!
