YOUR NAMES:
Grace and Simon
WHAT DATE DID YOU GET MARRIED?
18th February 2017
WHERE DID YOU GET MARRIED?
Warwick School Chapel and Wethele Manor
HOW DID YOU MEET?
We went to school together. Simon used to hold the door open for me in the hope of being noticed in our GCSE English lessons… he finally succeeded in the sixth form and we’ve been together ever since.
WHERE DID YOU GO ON YOUR FIRST DATE? HOW DID IT GO!?
We didn’t really…
WHERE, HOW AND AFTER HOW LONG DID HE/SHE PROPOSE?
It was really informal. We’d been together since the sixth form, through university at different ends of the country and ended up in Warwickshire. We’d spoken about getting married lots, and October one morning Simon just said ‘shall we go to the jewellery quarter?’ and we chose a ring together. He had intended to propose in Scotland at Christmas, but I’m a massive control freak and it just suited us both more to have less fuss and more chance to celebrate with family and friends.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR WEDDING VENUE?
I work at Warwick as an English teacher and so the chapel is part of my every day life. It’s beautiful, full of gorgeous oak and big enough for all the family without felling huge. The reception was a Wethele Manor, and we really couldn’t have asked for better. From the first look around we fell in love with the beautiful farm house accommodation, the barns and the marquee all set in landscaped gardens and surrounded by amazing farm land (complete with animals!) But best of all were the Wethele Manor staff: family run with a nothing is too much trouble and super organised attitude. It really was a perfect fit.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE MOMENT OR MEMORY OF YOUR WEDDING DAY?
We both loved the whole day and it seemed to go in rather a blur. But the best thing was sitting on the long tables looking out whilst everyone was eating the amazing food and watching all of our dearest friends and family having a brilliant time. We were also really proud of what we’d managed to organise and how beautiful everything and everyone looked. We even squeezed a boat in which my Auntie adorned with yet more gorgeous flowers!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLES?
Don’t get bogged down in all the hype. Everyone tells you how stressful it can be but remember it’s a joyous time. Just take it one step at a time, keep talking to each other, pull in as many favours as you can and enjoy the ride- we certainly did! When it gets to the wedding day, find time to sneak off , just the two of you, and make sure you take it all in.
HOW DID I DO AND HOW WERE YOUR IMAGES?
Darren was amazing. He got there super early to get some shots of everyone getting ready and stayed through right into the evening. He really did capture every moment of the day. It was a really good idea to have a pre wedding shoot as we were both quite nervous about being snapped all day, and it really helped to put us both at ease. On the day we rather enjoyed the thrill of it all. Darren was so brilliant at striking the right balance of getting all the images you need (the more formal images of great auntie Maud etc.) and all the informal images which capture the atmosphere and tell the story of the day.
